Umbilical Termination Head

Electro-Hydraulic UTH for Multi-Service Subsea Connection

Umbilical termination heads (UTH) make it possible to terminate umbilical lines and provide multiple connections for chemical, hydraulic, electrical and fibre optic services subsea. This design coils the electrical lines on the outside of the drum to allow a quick and simple release when subsea, helping prevent the hoses from becoming entangled during installation.

Connector Type

The Umbilical Termination Head terminates umbilical lines and brings multiple chemical, hydraulic, electrical and fibre optic services together at a single subsea interface. Carrying up to 26 couplings, it is rated to a design depth of 3000m and a maximum pressure of up to 15000psi, with a 30 year design life and qualification to ISO13628-6 / 7 / 8.

The design coils the electrical lines on the outside of the drum, allowing a quick and simple release subsea while helping to prevent the hoses from becoming entangled during installation. Multiple lifting points are designed and tested in accordance with DNV 2.7-3, and the assembly is configured for a 2m minimum installation height with anti-rotation, butt welded hose fittings.

Male and female stabplates are manufactured from UNS S31803 duplex stainless steel, with a HIDURON 130 lock-down drive screw and UNS S32760 / UNS S31803 receptacle components and 316L stainless steel ROV buckets. The female stabplate weighs 356kg over a 1.6m length, with a stabplate outside diameter of Ø300 / Ø350.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an umbilical termination head do?

It terminates the umbilical's lines subsea and brings the chemical, hydraulic, electrical and fibre optic services together at a single connectable interface — up to 26 couplings plus electrical connectors — for onward distribution to the production system.

Why are the electrical lines coiled on the outside of the drum?

Coiling the electrical lines externally allows a quick, simple release subsea and helps prevent the hoses becoming entangled during installation — a common failure mode with internally stowed service loops.

What are the key ratings?

3,000 m design depth, up to 15,000 psi maximum pressure, 218 kN separation force and a 30-year design life, qualified to ISO 13628-6/7/8.

When should I specify the High-Load UTH instead?

When tie-in loads exceed what a standard termination can carry. The High-Load variant adds an external load by-pass (ELB) mechanism that redirects external loads around the MQC lockdown and into the host structure — see the High-Load UTH product page.

What materials are used?

Male and female stabplates in UNS S31803 duplex, Hiduron 130 lock-down drive screw, UNS S32760/S31803 receptacle components and 316L stainless steel ROV buckets.
