The Mechanical EQDU is comprised of an electro-hydraulic stabplate assembly with male and female components. The fixed plate mounts to the B.O.P or deployment basket with hydraulic couplers and electrical connectors, while the free plate attaches to the breakaway structure or LMRP unit.

The unit features an ROV locking and unlocking mechanism and operates with pressurised or de-pressurised couplings. It includes an A.P.I 17D ISO 13628-1 Class 4 rotary actuator receptacle with 1.5 tonnes nominal separation force, and a non-destructive design allowing ROV reconnection.
