Emergency Quick Disconnect Unit

This unit comprises an electro-hydraulic stabplate assembly. The male fixed plate is mounted to the interface between the B.O.P and EDP/LMRP, populated with male hydraulic couplers and electrical connectors and equipped with an offset and angular misalignment mechanism plus coarse and fine alignment. The female free plate is mounted to the breakaway structure or EDP/LMRP unit and connects to the workover umbilical and cables.

Because the unit is specified to suit exact system requirements, hydraulic, electrical, fibre optic and power interfaces can be combined on a single stabplate and configured for a specific BOP/EDP-LMRP combination rather than adapting a fixed catalogue part. The male fixed plate carries the male couplers and connectors together with the offset and angular misalignment mechanism, while the female free plate connects to the workover umbilical and cables.

The plate design incorporates primary (coarse) guidance through the interface to the structure, followed by primary (fine) guidance built into the stabplate assembly, ensuring fine alignment prior to coupling engagement and locking. Generous misalignment tolerance — up to 7.5° angular, 2.5° rotational and 33mm in the X and Y axes — accommodates as-installed variation between the fixed and free plates.

The emergency disconnect package is designed to operate from the vessel via a hydraulic cylinder. Couplings can be specified to disconnect pressurised or de-pressurised, and connections are provided to facilitate ROV hot stab intervention override.

How is the emergency disconnect triggered?

The package is operated from the vessel via a hydraulic cylinder, releasing the stabplate connection on command. Connections are also provided for ROV hot stab intervention as an override.

How does this differ from the Mechanical EQDU?

Both are electro-hydraulic stabplate assemblies; the difference is actuation. The Mechanical EQDU separates via a surface tugger wire, while this unit disconnects hydraulically from the vessel with an ROV hot stab override — suited to BOP–EDP/LMRP interfaces where a powered, commandable release is required.

How many connections can one unit carry?
